Temi’s Dev Log

The Game has begun development!

Monday 12 February 2024

I’m happy to announce that development for BeatBounds has officially begun in the Godot Engine! So far we have a barebones platformer but I’m excited to see what this will blossom into.

Title Screen & Gameplay

Monday 15 April 2024

Our game now has a title screen! I’ve also designed a temporary logo to use as a placeholder inside this title screen. The logo also pulses to the BPM of whatever is playing making it look more alive and active!

I’ve also implemented an early camera and movement system, the clock mechanic that will be the centre focus of our game and imported some of Kat’s prototype sprites.

Hazards

Wednesday 17 April 2024

Hazards are now in the game! Watch your step, they pack a punch!

Clock Prototype + New Terrain

Thursday 18 April 2024

Made a new prototype HUD for the clock! The large number shows you how many bars you have left and the small number shows you the amount of beats left altogether!

The terrain has also been given a face lift but this is just a placeholder until Kate makes some brand new floor sprites.

New Logo + Title Screen Update

Friday 19 April 2024

Both the logo and the rest of the title screen are getting a face lift! Just in time for the John Hansard Exhibition where the game will be publically playable! Hope to see you there!

Feedback tweaks + New animations!

Wednesday 24 April 2024

We received some really valuable feedback from the John Hansard Exhibition last Saturday! Many thanks to everyone who attended!

Here’s a list of things we plan to tweak in the game as response to your feedback:

  • Different animations that react to the music
  • Tweak jump to make it less floaty
  • Make the player stick to the platforms instead of falling off
  • Change the terrain sprites to make them match the game art style more

New animations are being added as promised!

HUD Tweaks + New Floor Tiles

Wednesday 3 May 2024

Made some new HUD tweaks and imported Kate’s new floor tiles to test how they will look in-game!

New Sprites and Physics tweaks!

Wednesday 15 May 2024

More new sprites have been added and the HUD has been tweaked to give the game some new life! The platforming is now completely solid with the jumps being a lot more responsive and the character Kai now sticks to moving platforms instead of sliding off. The more you hold the jump button the higher Kai will jump, hopefully this will make the game more enjoyable for everyone who’s been waiting for us to update the physics!

We will be showcasing the game at the Barclays Game Frenzy Event in Canary Wharf tomorrow, hope we see you there!

Barclays Breakout Event

Thursday 16 May 2024

Taking a short break from game dev to announce that today was a success! It was so refreshing to meet game developers and game dev students alike and try out their projects! Also got to feature BeatBounds so that was pretty cool. Thanks to everyone who dropped by!
